Dear Parents and Friends

Hope you all had a good Christmas! Here we are again- the beginning of a new term. This half term our themes are dinosaurs(4 weeks) and Chinese New Year (2 weeks). We will finish with a Chinese New Year celebration. The role play area will be transfomed into a campsite and dinosaur dig. If you have any dinosaur books, models, bones etc- we would be very grateful if we could borrow them. Also please collect toilet roll tubes as we wil use them to make swamp hangings. I have planned the topic across the 6 areas of the Foundation Stage curriculum:

Personal, Social and Emotional

Role play area,circle time games- turn taking and listening skills

Chinese New Year celebrations

Knowledge and Understanding of the World

Find out about dinosaurs- types, habitats, characteristics, growth- egg to animal, feely box of materials, make a moving dinosaur, constructing with 3D boxes, ICT dazzle paint program

Communication, Language and Literacy

Dinosaur names and descriptions, make and listen to dinosaur sounds, dinosaur catalogues, retell stories, Chinese New Year cards, Chinese writing, dragon stories

Creative Development

Dinosaur tiles, dinosaur models with tissue and PVA, plaster of Paris fossils, swamp mobiles, big dragon for dancing, dinosaur sock puppets, lanterns, dinosaur paintings, swamp clingfilm.

Mathematical development.

Sorting and matching dinosaurs, weighing and measuring dinosaurs, order by size, digits 1- 10 number songs, money envelopes

Physical development

Dinosaur stomping, dinosaur swamp song, use apparatus to build a circuit- dont put your feet in the swamp, Chinese dancing, Chinese dragon dance.

How you can help at home

Go to the library- find dinosaur books- stories and factual books

How many different dinosaurs can you find- how are they the same/different?

Which was the biggest dinosaur- How big was it ?

Visit Jungle Land- look at different plants

Give your child a pencil and paper- let them write a story.

Make biscuits to feed a dinosaur

Find out about Chinese New Year.

Finally reading workshop continues every Wednesday at 11.15am or 3pm- please come and share stories with one or two children, we would really love to see you( mums,dads,grandparents,aunties etc:) We do need more parents to attend from the morning group PLEASE!! Thanks. Finally don't forget the lunchclub has started £2 per day please sign up on the notice board.Snack money is £1 a week or £6.60 for the half term. Finally I am keen to develop Nursery provision- perhaps introduce a toddler group- if anyone has any ideas or would like to know me then please drop in for a chat.
